Lima residents had the chance to learn more about job opportunities in the area at the Second Baptist Church Sunday (9/10) afternoon.

The Trade Expo & Burgers with Berger event invited people to eat burgers and speak with Lima Mayor David Berger about the jobs available in the Lima area.  The event was put on by the Lima Area Black Ministerial Alliance, the West Central Ohio Central Labor Council, and the Ohio AFL-CIO, and those involved say that getting this information out to people needed to be done.

"It just felt like it was important for us to bring this together because there are terrific opportunities in our construction trades and in the industrial unions for apprenticeship," said Mayor Berger.

One of the speakers at the event was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Ohio AFL-CIO, who says that taking up an apprenticeship might be the right choice for a lot of people.

"Apprenticeships really are something that a lot of people should think about; not everyone is going to go to college but you can actually go and get an apprenticeship, learn a trade, and get hired into a production company, manufacturing production, or even learn a trade like electrical or plumbing," said Pierrette Talley, Secretary-Treasurer of the Ohio AFL-CIO.

Representatives of the Lima Building Trades Council were also present to talk about different apprenticeships in Lima and accepting applications.
