September 11th is remembered as a solemn day as nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the terrorist attacks, but it's also the day of the most successful search and rescue efforts in the history of the American Fire Service.

Bath Fire Chief Joe Kitchen speaking at the Lima Rotary meeting Monday as the club was taking time to remember 9/11. Kitchen says all the systems in place worked that day, from fire and police, to the port authority and emergency response teams. Due to their efforts, 14,000 lives were saved. 343 firefighters were killed during the search and rescue efforts of the towers and Kitchen says that number has increased since the attacks.
