Lima Ohio -

The Lima Police Department updated the Lima City Council on a new program looking help those struggling from drug addiction.

In July, the LPD was awarded $100,000 in grant funds to help the department combat drug abuse and addition in the city. The Substance Abuse Assistance for Everyone program, or SAAFE, offers those charged with a drug related crime the ability to participate in a program designed to free them of their addiction. If the participant successfully makes it through the program, the charges will be dropped and incarceration is avoided, but more importantly they can make a change in their lives before it’s too late.

At Monday’s meeting, the Lima City Council approved an increase in the standard parking rate at the Market Street Parking Garage as well as a long term parking rate for those living at 43 Town Square, occupying the former bank building. And finally, Mike Caprella gave an update on the wastewater treatment plant after being struck by lightning in July. Originally estimated at $3 million in damages, Caprella says the number is now closer to $2 million.
