As Hurricane Irma continues to weaken, the devastation left behind by both her and Harvey has many in dire need.

Hurricane Harvey brought the worst flooding in the history of the United States to Houston and southeast Texas, and left more than 30,000 displaced. 70 deaths were confirmed in Texas and damage estimates range from 100 to 200 billion dollars. Not long after Harvey, was major hurricane Irma, which has left parts of the Florida peninsula and the Florida Keys devastated. Thousands are in need of water, food, and other supplies.

In response to these disasters, people across the country have come together to help those in need. That includes the Lafayette First United Methodist Church. The church is accepting water, non-perishable food, hygiene products, cleaning products, medicines, and monetary donations. It's something those involved and the Village of Lafayette feel is the right thing to do.

The supplies will be transported to Florida next week in a 53-foot trailer that was donated to the church.
