If you have been thinking about planting a tree in your yard, the Allen Soil and Water Conservation District might be able to help you.

A rebate is being offered by the city's Stormwater Department and covers half the cost of a tree and having it planted by professionals. The tree must be picked from an approved tree list and planted within city limits in order to be eligible for the first-come, first-serve rebate. The organization says that the time is right to plant trees.

"Right now in fall is a great time to plant because the colder temperatures and plenty of rain are great for a much needed a growth before winter," said Becky Core, Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator for the Allen Soil and Water Conservation District.  "In the addition to that, the cooler temperatures and the warmer soils from the summer really promote root growth over top growth and so you're going to get a really good established root system before winter."

Applications for the rebate must be delivered to the Allen Soil and Water Conservation District office at 1601 East Fourth Street Suite B, Lima by November 30th. The approved tree list can be found online at allenswcd.com. For more information, contact Alaina Morman at (419) 223-00404.
