The Lima Salvation Army is preparing people for the winter with two programs.

The Salvation Army is still collecting donations for the annual coat for families distribution that will be held in October for families that need coats before the weather gets cold; proof of household members and income and expenses are required.  Lima's Salvation Army will soon be taking applications for their Christmas assistance services to get a good idea of the amount of need this year.

While it's still only September, the organization is looking to the future to help people in the coming months.

"For the coats, it's definitely to prepare families for winter; and for Christmas, I know it's crazy talk to talk about Christmas in late September, early October, but to get everything in order in order and donations coming in to help people we have to do we have to do it early," said Paul Downing, operations coordinator for Lima Salvation Army.

The coat distribution event will be at the Lima Salvation Army, 614 East Market Street, on October 11th and 12th from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on October 13th from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Applications for the Christmas assistance programs will also be accepted on those dates.
