When a child is taken from their home, at no fault of their own, it's difficult. When a child is torn from their family it can be traumatic.

Allen County Children Services has worked tirelessly to place kids in its custody with a family member. It's called kinship placement. Last year, children services worked with 365 kids who were placed in kinship relative care. Officials say this placement is much better for the children, as it's less disruptive than being put in foster care, with people they don't know.

"Well when they stay with family or people that they know, they're in familiar surroundings. They typically get to stay in the same school or they stay in the same activities. Just more things that are familiar to them," said Shelly Conrad, Family Stability Supervisor, ACCS.
