Long time Wapakoneta Police Chief Russel Hunlock celebrated his last day on the force Friday afternoon.

Chief Hunlock has been in law enforcement for the last 27 years, with 26 of those years as a full time officer at the Wapakoneta Police Department, and was named Chief of Police in 2009. The city held a farewell party for Chief Hunlock, where law enforcement and community members alike were part of the festivities. Chief Hunlock says that he is a bit sad to leave, but wishes his squad well as he moves on to retirement.

"It's kind of bittersweet, but I'm thankful that I've been able to have such a rewarding career for as long as I've had, I'm going to miss my staff and my personnel; they're top-notch and they do a real good service for a community," Chief Hunlock said.

Chief Hunlock was also the K-9 handler for the Wapakoneta Police Department for 17 years.
