There was joy and celebration in the air at Faurot Park, where the seventh annual Buddy Walk was taking place.  The Buddy Walk is put on in Lima by the Down Syndrome Association of Western Ohio, and is just one of many Buddy Walks that are put on throughout the country.  The walk celebrates those with Down syndrome and encourages understanding.

"We want everybody to know that they are no different than us - it takes a little longer for them to get to where they need to be, but they get there," said Bobbie Dawson, President of the Down Syndrome Association of Western Ohio.  "They are just like us; they play, they work, they go to school, everything, just like us."

Teams of friends and families were made to support the people honored at the event.  Those that have a family member with Down syndrome say it means a lot to see so many others that are in the same situation - and supporting their loved ones.

"It's nice to know that you're not alone in a situation like this, but it's also neat to see so many people actually supporting the cause and how many more people come every year - it's gotten a lot bigger, our group almost doubled this year to walk for our son," said Sarah Wiechart, who is walking for her son Hunter.

Naturally, it's an exciting day for everyone with games and awards given out, and just celebrating the lives of family members with Down syndrome.

"[Hunter] looks forward to every year; last year I think was the first year that he actually understood why we were here, but this week it's been nonstop talking about how this is for him, and he loves it," said Wiechart.
