Lima’s Neighborhood Concerns Committee created a panel to further examine a possible landlord registration.

The committee agreed to create a nine person panel to examine the issue of landlord registration. Committee Chairman Jesse Lowe, along with the city’s community development director and law director will be joined by three people who are in favor of landlord registration and three people who are against. All six of those members were picked from the group of people who were in attendance Monday night. That panel will meet on October 16th to begin discussion on a solution to crack down on landlords who neglect their properties without punishing the ones who invest in theirs.

“What I want to do is bring everybody together sit down and talk. We need to come to a happy medium. Blight in this city is getting pretty rough, it’s been happening for a long time. Why they chose to take care of it now, I really don’t know. My job as committee chair is to handle it and do the best job that I can," commented Jesse Lowe, 3rd Ward Councilor/Chairman of the Neighborhood Concerns Committee.

Last week, Lowe says that there was a lot of rumors going around the city about landlord registration. Following Mayor David Berger’s allegation that flyers being handed out to renters, saying that their rent will go up because of the registration. Berger accused his opponent Keith Chaney for being behind the flyers. Lowe says Mayor David Berger gave a proposal to council for the registration and it is not law and the panel will work to develop an excellent plan for the city.
