It's become a tradition - every fall, football fans flock to St. Marys to watch the Ohio State football game while raising money for cancer research and treatment and assistance programs at the annual Tailgate for Cancer.  Besides just watching the game on the big screen, the tailgate had plenty else to do - a silent auction, games and giveaways, and live music were also part of the fun.. All to bring in some money to benefit those that need it.

"With today's event, all the proceeds go to the James, the Auglaize County Crippled Children, and then we also give a portion of today's proceeds to the local Auglaize County Cancer Association," said Renee Lauth, Media Coordinator for St. Marys Tailgate for Cancer.

The day's events started with hundreds of runners and walkers participating in this year's 5k, and ended with a live auction after the game - bringing together months of hard work into a fun day for a good cause.

"It is exciting; every year you get some of the same people that come out, and every year you get additional people from other communities, it really touches your heart because this money stays local and the money really makes a difference," said Lauth.

"Everyone is touched by cancer at some point, they know someone or it's affected them somehow, so we're just glad to be able to support the cause and help find a cure - together we will find a cure," said Juli Sprague, a committee member with St. Marys Tailgate for Cancer.

Not counting this year's tailgate, the total donations that the committee has raised with support of the community over the years is over $700,000.
