The summer-like temperature was ideal for some local kids to grab their bats and gloves and play some softball.

This is the second year that Kalida hosted the Softball Game for Special Needs Children. The game was open to kids in Putnam and Allen Counties. Around 20 kids took part in the game this afternoon, some with special needs and others just wanting to share in all the fun. For some of the players last year, it was the first time they have ever got to play in a softball game, and they had such a good time, that they remembered it long after the game was over.

“I can some it all up with one boy that played last year. He said it was the greatest thing for him to have his name announced over the loud speaker that he was the batter and that made it all worth while, just one kid," says organizer Bob Buss.

Buss says they will continue doing the softball game as long as the kids want to come out and play.
