A new program is helping youngsters learn how to take care of their neighborhood.

Teens Who Lead Lima had their first meeting Wednesday afternoon for children ages 12 to 16 who live in the neighborhood near Freedom Elementary. The program will teach these young people more about growing a garden and selling the produce, developing neighborhood projects, and opening up their own savings account, all to help them bring up the area they live in.

"Especially this day and age with this age group, people are so into Facebook and social media and we don't often get involved with our neighborhoods as much as we used to," said Jackie Fox, Chief Operating Officer for West Ohio CAP.  "That's what we're trying to do, is to bring that back into the neighborhoods where kids can really make a difference in their neighborhood."

Organizers plan to extend the program to other neighborhoods in the future.
