Clean-up underway after two EF-2 tornadoes hit Mercer County Sunday

Clean-up is underway in Mercer County and the City of Celina after two EF-2 tornadoes powered through the area Sunday packing up to 135 mph winds.

It was around 2:15 p.m. when the storm touched down in the area. In a press conference Monday the sheriff says Mercer County is now recovery-mode.

No life-threatening injuries were reported though eight were injured but not seriously. Four of them were treated at a local hospital.

As for the City of Celina, the mayor's coffee shop is out of commission, even as he surveyed the town for cost of damage and management of emergency personnel. Still, Mayor Jeffrey Hazel said he applauds the quick response of city officials.

The amount of damage in dollars has not yet been determined, but Crown Equipment and Dollar General have seen severe damage to their buildings, as well as Dunham's, C-Town Wings, and Ruler Foods among others.

Area restaurants have stepped in to donate food for those who were at some point without power. At this time the mayor says utilities has restored power for 90% of customers affected by the storm.

Hazel said it may take weeks, if not months, for some businesses and homes to get back to normal.
