There are 378 of them in Allen County and the State of Ohio requires that the county maintains each and every one of them.

Allen County Engineer Brion Rhodes presenting commissioners with this year's bridge report, detailing the age and conditions of all the county bridges. The life span of a bridge is approximately 50 years, and there are 80 bridges reaching that age. Six bridges were able to be repaired or replaced in 2017, with help from the Ohio Bridge Partnership and other funding. The county was also responsible to recalculate load limits to meet a new mandate from the State regarding an additional vehicle recognized by the State. Rhodes says they were able to obtain federal funding for the $10,000 needed for the load ratings for 10 bridges.

Commissioners say they will review the report and understand that with less federal and state funds available, that other funding will be needed to repair and replace the aging bridges around the county.
