With the weather getting colder and hunting season in full swing, it's important to remember that ticks are still active this time of year.

One major disease that ticks carry is Lyme disease, and the Ohio Department of Health is reporting over 240 cases of Lyme disease in Ohio so far in 2017.  That number has steadily increased over the last five years, and that goes along with the increase of blacklegged ticks in Ohio.  One way to avoid being bit by an infected tick is being prepared.

"If you’re out in the woods even today these ticks can be active and can latch onto you, so you want to protect yourself when you’re out, that means covering up your sleeves, your legs, tucking your pants legs into your boots, those kinds of things," said Bill Kelly, Director of Environmental Health for Allen County Public Health.
