Concerned about your inability to remember? Memory screenings can help catch a health issue early on.

The Allen County Council on Aging held memory screenings for Allen County Residents on November 14th. The screenings consist of a series of questions and tasks and only takes about ten minutes. The test is to determine if there is a memory issue, but it is also a test to determine if there is a deficiency in the body causing memory loss. The early detection helps people sustain a better quality of life, late into their years.

"The whole idea behind the memory screening is that when you test early, people become aware of it," said Gerry Burton, Senior Services Resource Specialist. "Once they're aware of it, they can get on some medication. It does not stop the progression of Dementia or Alzheimer's but, it does slow it down."

Memory screenings cannot diagnose Dementia or Alzheimer's. You should not replace consultation with a physician, should the test conclude there is an issue.
