If you think your blood pressure's stable, you may want to check twice. 

According to the American Heart Association, standards for measuring it have changed designating nearly half of U.S. adults with high blood pressure. Prehypertension has been eliminated altogether. 

The new measure breaks things down to four stages changing a concerning read from 140/70 to 130/80.

This does not necessarily mean you'd have to be put on medication right away.

There are steps to take first which include exercising regularly, lowering salt intake and reducing stress.

These changes come after 14 years of research. Canada has made similar changes already and the U.K. is working to adopt similar changes.
