The country of Zimbabwe has a new leader after 37 years under Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe's successor is Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe's former vice president who was let go from that position in late November.  That removal sparked a call for change, and Mnangagwa took the position of the third president of Zimbabwe.

Michael Schoenhofer with the Mental Health Recovery Services Board spent five years in Zimbabwe back in the 1980s, and he's hopeful that new leadership will bring the country back to its former self.

"There was a lot of culture there, and it sort of wasted away I think through neglect and corruption and misspending, and now I think they have a second chance of maybe getting back to that route of independence that gave people the real freedom they were looking for," said Schoenhofer.

The new president was sworn in on November 24th.
