This year's election season brought some surprises and some disappointments. One for the local RTA who's board members are now trying to pick up the pieces.

"We are currently working on our 2018 budget. It's kind of a difficult process because of the deficit that we have and with all of the cutbacks and loss of staff and employees.  said Shelia Haney, Executive Director of the Allen County Regional Transit Authority.

They haven't had to lay anyone off -  but that's because eleven who were counting on the levy have already quit.. Leaving the company without the necessary funds and the necessary staffing.

"The issue right now is that we're hanging on with such a reduction in staff that our service cuts weren't scheduled until January 1 and we're really struggling now to continue the services that we have," said Haney.

The good news is that two major grants for the organization have come through. That money can only be used for fair boxes and shelter updates - so service cuts makes some of that fulfillment obsolete. January 1 they'll have the most major cuts - shutting down service early every day.

"We're going to be shutting down at 5:45 p.m. instead of 10:15 p.m. Monday through Friday and there are three routes that we've created to get folks to jobs for the last four years. Those are our least ridership so we're going to go ahead ans shut those down as well," she said.
