Local students are being recognized for their above and beyond achievements in all aspects of life.

The Shawnee Optimist Club honored 20 local high school seniors part of the Students of Honor and Achievement Awards Program. The students recognized are determined to perform their very best at everything they attempt to do. Five students from each local high school were honored: Apollo Career Center, LCC, Perry High School and Shawnee High School. In attendance to present awards were Allen County Commissioner Cory Noonan and state representative Robert Cupp.

"It's really kind of an all-around student," said Cheryl Morgan, Chair Person for the awards program. "Someone that excels in everything, whether it's in school with their academics or whether its their involvement in the community and in school activities. We want to recognize students that are future leaders."
