The president signed the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act bill into law Friday, reaching his goal of having the bill ready for his signature before Christmas.  Sen. Rob Portman has been a supporter of the tax reform bill, saying that it will be a big help to the middle class and create more jobs in Ohio, and that the economic growth from the reforms means more money in the long run.

"If you increase economic growth just a little bit, you get a lot more revenue coming in," said Sen. Portman.  "One more point of economic growth, say going from one and a half percent to two and a half percent growth, which I think is very reasonable, is another $3.7 trillion."

Sen. Portman is also glad that the National Defense Authorization Act was also signed in to law.  He fought for funding for the joint system manufacturing center, to continue work there for years to come.

"This is going to help get the employment up at the plant and have steady employment over time, because these programs are going to be serious long-term programs to provide necessary military readiness in a dangerous world, but also ensure that we have a stronger economy in the Allen County/Lima area," said Sen. Portman.

The NDAA will grant more than 1.6 billion dollars to create the next generation of the Abrams tank.
