A group of Spartans set up shop outside of Saturday's (12/30/2017) basketball games to spread one little girl's joy to the community.

Lima Senior students taking part in the school's DECA program is working to raise awareness for Down Syndrome through their "Spread Jada's Joy" campaign. Jada is the daughter of two Lima Senior employees, James and Chrissy Hood, who has Down Syndrome. The students were selling t-shirts as well as providing free face painting to children, cupcakes from Sara's Sweets, and information on Down Syndrome. All of the proceeds from the night will go to the Ronald McDonald House and the Lima Host Lions Club, organizations that both helped Jada's family. Senior Otisha Calhoun says the group wanted to let everyone know that people like Jada are not all that different.

"We wanted to help this because in other countries and stuff, people who are diagnosed with stuff, they tend to get rid of the babies," says Calhoun." "This is dear to our hearts, not only our teachers but everybody that's involved with this project. We wanted to let everybody know that it doesn't matter what you are diagnosed with, we are all the same."

The DECA students are currently collecting aluminum can tabs to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House and used eyeglasses for the Lions Club, as kids with Down Syndrome often have vision problems like Jada.
