It's a new year, but it is a new you?

One of the biggest New Year's traditions is picking a resolution, but the resolutions tend to be a struggle for so many people. Mike Schoenhofer, Executive Director for the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin Counties, says the first step is to make a list of things you love to do and then pick just one. Setting a timer for how long you are going to do it can help you from getting burnt out on your goal, but the biggest thing you can do to stay true to your New Year's goals is to keep your lips sealed.

"Very important, tell no one," says Schoenhofer. "There's a lot of research that says when you tell somebody what your goal is, like my goal is to lose 15 pounds, your brain, it gets the same sort of endorphin or reward as if you did it. And then you lose the motivation, the energy, the drive to do it."

Schoenhofer says it is better to tell everyone what you did rather than what you're going to do, but if you really need to tell someone, try keeping a journal of your progress.
