Area middle schoolers had the chance to learn how to play tennis from the pros Sunday afternoon at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.

This afternoon (1/07/18) marked the first session of an eight week tennis program, where Jeff Brown and Andrea Arango-Brown show middle school students the basics of the game.  The program, which is sponsored by the Lima Area Tennis Association and the U.S. Tennis Association is held every Sunday, and those that help to put on the program say that it's wonderful to see so many young people working and playing hard every week.

"When you see them playing today, and then on the last day of play - we have a mini tournament for them and a traveling trophy that we have for them - but to see them from day one and then on the last day is fabulous; they develop the skills and they’re getting out on Sunday afternoon getting some exercise in the middle of winter - you can’t beat that," said Joan Collar, President of the Lima Area Tennis Association.

20 middle schoolers participated in today's session.
