A Putnam County man was sentenced in his retrial on a guilty verdict of aggravated murder.

Monday afternoon Michael Luebrecht was sentenced to life in prison, reaffirming his 2006 conviction of 25 years to life in prison. The only change is Luebrecht is eligible for parole after 20 years and his time served since 2006 will count towards those years. Luebrecht originally pleaded guilty to killing his 13-month-old son by drowning him in a bathtub. He changed his plea to not guilty and stood retrial on January 2nd claiming his medication caused him a mental illness.

"I'm a changed man," Luebrecht pleaded to Judge Randall Basinger. "I'm not the man I was before. My train of thought can't even go back to what I was before. I don't even want to think like that anymore. I don't think like I used to. I don't feel like used to."

Before sentencing, Luebrecht said how thankful he was for Basinger for granting the retrial. In 30 years of practice, Basinger said this was the first motion for a retrial he granted.
