Preparing for winter weather is something that must be done in order to keep roads clean and safe - and that's exactly what several local agencies have been doing to get ready for the upcoming storm.  While the amount of snow may not be as high as originally thought, it's still a big priority to prepare.

At the Allen County Engineer's Office, they are getting their trucks ready and loading them up with salt, and they're glad that there won't be as much snow for them to deal with.

"The new forecast is a lot better than what they initially predicted - we were afraid that it was going to be maybe like the Blizzard of '78 by the fact that we had rain turning into snow, but where they first said 13 inches is maybe now two to three inches, that’s a lot better," said Brion Rhodes, Allen County Engineer.

But even though they are prepared at the Engineer's Office, it can still be a little difficult to know what exactly they might be looking at in the days ahead.

"Really, snow and ice control is more of an art than a science, and the fact that there’s always changing conditions makes it really difficult," Rhodes said. "Most people think of snow and ice, but there’s really a lot of other factors that play into it - that is the change in temperatures, the wind, the changing direction of the wind, and also the sun, all these change how we react to the storm and how effective we are."

On the other side of Lima, the city trucks and plows are also loaded up and ready to go, which is something that they are used to doing after every snowfall.

"In between every snow, after we’re done, the guys go over all the trucks clean them up, they go over the trucks and make sure everything is functional, get ready for the next snowstorm," said John Beebe, Street Supervisor for the City of Lima.  "All ten of our trucks have all been cleaned up, they have all been gone over, so they’re ready for the next storm when it comes in."
