Lima Memorial Health System brought both knowledge and fun to Allen East Elementary Friday afternoon.

The event kicks off American Heart Month and celebrates National Wear Red Day for heart disease awareness.  Students in grades 2 through 5 learned more about the benefits of being heart healthy, with hands-on activities like hands-only CPR, how to build a healthy meal, and an exercise routine.  Teaching students more about keeping their hearts healthy early, could impact them for a life time, and influence others in their families to get more active too.

"If we can get the youth excited about exercising, getting out there, they'll get their parents and reach out to their parents, saying 'hey mom and dad let’s go to the park, or go for a bike ride, let’s get out and do something instead of sitting at the couch at home watching TV or playing on the iPads and phones,'" said Jessica Cunningham, Clinical Manager of the Lima Memorial Cardiac Cath Lab.
