St. Marys schools are going to the voters for help this May.

The St. Marys City Schools Board of Education voted to put a 1.5% earned income tax levy on the May ballot. The schools have not had to go to the public for operating funds since 2004 but as time has gone on and education has advanced, expenditures have gone up.

"It's a great school district and, again, we want to maintain what's going on and even further with technology and S.T.E.M. education," says Overman. "Unfortunately, they don't come cheaply."

Overman says the schools are currently at a deficit spending level and expect to be working in the red by 2020 if the levy does not pass.
