Members of the Lake Improvement Association in St. Marys were able to put faces to the team that has been dredging the lake.

The dredging crew was on hand at Saturday's meeting, along with the Ohio Department of Natural Resource's Tom Grabow, who talked about the work that the team has done over the last year.  2017 was a record year for dredging in the lake - with 455,000 cubic yards of dredge material removed.  As the team is preparing for the dredging season to start in April, there is quite a bit that goes into making it possible for them to do the work that they do.

"There a lot of key things that revolve around doing [a good job]; number one is the personnel that we do have, who are very broad in the knowledge that they bring to the table, and number two is funding - we got a significant amount of capital funding through past Sen/ Faber to be able to purchase some of the equipment that we need," said Grabow, who is the Dredge Program Administrator.

Teams have been dredging in Grand Lake St. Marys since 2011.
