On-site meals provide more than just sustenance for seniors, and when the Auglaize County Council on Aging was forced to look at other avenues to continue that service, their community really stepped up to the challenge.

"We have no borders," says Randy Kimpel, director for Our Daily Bread. "We're here to help whoever needs help."

Bob Warren with the Auglaize County Council on Aging says that socialization is an important service on-site meals provide to seniors.

"They're able to come in here and still continue to socialize and get their blood pressure checked, different things," says Warren. "The socialization is so important to the seniors. A lot of people, they have isolation problems."

The chance to play bingo and catch up with friends is something the seniors look forward to just as much as their meal.

"What do I like about Council? The community," says Linda Rempe. "Being able to talk to people and smile at them, stuff like that."

Rempe has been visiting the A.C.C.A. for just under a year now, but two year attendee Bonnie Berry could not agree more.

"It means a lot to me, it really does," says Berry. "I met a lot of new people here."

After funding for those meals was transferred to a meal voucher program, Lima's Our Daily Bread and other community members and organizations in Auglaize County volunteered to fill the need. Our Daily Bread's Randy Kimpel says they were more than happy to be able to repay the kindness from some of their Auglaize County supporters.

"We're not a government agency whatsoever, we accept no government funding so we rely solely on donations," says Kimpel. "There are churches and individuals in Auglaize County that support us. We're just returning some of the favors to people in Auglaize County."

Our Daily Bread provides meals Monday, Wednesday and Friday for both the Wapakoneta and St. Marys A.C.C.A. locations. In between that time, Warren says others in the community have stepped up to help.
