On Sunday night's episode of the popular television show, "This is Us", the family made critical errors in escaping a house fire, including trying to re-enter the home. This narrative isn't just television drama, it is a real tragedy that Lima's Chief Fire Inspector, Christopher Jackson, remembers all too well.

Jackson says, "As a matter of fact we had a fire like that several years ago and that's exactly what happened, a younger man spent the night at a friends house, apparently didn't have a fire escape plan, the house caught on fire, two people exited the front door the other young man exited the rear door, they didn't see each other, two of the occupants ran back inside and it became a double fatality."

At a time of the year when house fires seem to spike, Jackson says the most important step to take to ensure your safety, is to make a plan. Jackson says this is especially important for families with small children, and Lima fire department goes the extra mile, to educate children on how to evacuate the house in case of an emergency.
