It's defined as the buying and selling of another human being in exchange for a good or service. It's what's known as human trafficking.

Monday, Lima Rotarians hearing from Crime Victim Services' Anti-human Trafficking Director Ryn Farmer about Allen County statistics. Since 2012, they have helped 100 victims of human trafficking here in Allen County. 80% of those were involved in sex trafficking with 20% in labor trafficking. Farmer says they're seeing an increase in the number of people being identified as labor trafficking victims.

"We see labor trafficking happening here in Ohio too so that can be involuntary slavery, it can be debt bondage, peonage, there's lots of different types of labor trafficking that we see. So we want to make sure that when people hear that term, human trafficking, they don't automatically think about sex trafficking because it's so much bigger than that, and globally labor trafficking is actually bigger than sex trafficking," explained Farmer.

Farmer encourages anyone that believes they have knowledge of someone or is being trafficked themselves to call 419-222-8666 or contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline.
