Botanist George Washington Carver became known as "The Peanut Man" after appearing in front of Congress in 1921. Today, students at Ohio State Lima celebrated his success with their annual Peanut Butter Bash. While Carver didn't actually create peanut butter he did make by products of the peanut like flour, milk, dyes, cheeses and more. The students enjoyed a variety of fluffernutter sandwiches and hopefully learned a little more about George Washington Carver.

George Washington Carver also considered weeds to be nature's vegetables and was a nutritious and underdeveloped food source for America. Though dating back to 1915, Black History Month was not recognized nationally until 1976 by President Gerald Ford and every president since.
