The United States Senate has come to a bipartisan agreement to prevent a government shutdown later this week.

Besides continuing to fund the government for six weeks, the proposed bill would boost funding for the Pentagon and lift the debt limit and provide more funding for hurricane hit areas. The bill also provides funding for the children health insurance program for four years, and money for community health clinics.

"It’s a victory for public health. Especially for families, where the family is working, they are making 10, 12 dollars an hour, they maybe don’t have great health insurance, because they can’t afford it. It’s important with the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and with the community health centers that we build that foundation for better health," said Senator Sherrod Brown.

Congress has to vote on the Senate budget plan and the president will have to sign by tomorrow(2/8/18) to prevent another government shutdown. One thing the bill doesn't do is touch immigration. President Trump said Tuesday he will let the government shutdown again, if Democrats will not back changes to immigration.
