A government shutdown was not the only thing that the recently signed budget deal prevented, it could help prevent the pension cuts to 1 point 5 million Americans.

There was a provision in the bill to create a committee of lawmakers to find a solution to the substantial pension cuts teamsters, carpenter, and confectioners are facing.  Some could be losing around half or more of their pension fund if a solution is not found. Senator Sherrod Brown will join 12 members of the U.S. House and Senate, half Democrat and half Republican to work on a plan to prevent the pension cuts that would impact 60 thousand Ohioans.

“There are hundreds of people, if we do this right as we should, that will not see their pensions cut" says Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown.  "Congress is willing to bailout the banks, it’s time that we step up and help these people that worked hard and put their money aside by giving up wages today at the bargaining table, so they have a pension and it’s time we honor that.”

The committee is directed to have a bill ready by the final week of November 2018 to prevent cuts to pensions.
