The Lima Symphony Orchestra held a "Carnival of Colors" Saturday night (2/10/18).

The Mardi Gras inspired show is the fourth major concert of the season. The orchestra was joined by Michigan State University student Connor Mikula, who won the L.S.O. Friends of Symphony Young Artist Award in the Spring of 2017. The performance was extra special because saxophones are not often seen performing with orchestras.

"All the great repertoire that was written for the orchestra -- Brahms and Beethoven and Mozart and all that -- the saxophone didn't exist so it's nice to bring the two together tonight in a saxophone concerto," says Crafton Beck, Music Director and Conductor for the L.S.O.

It has also been announced that the L.S.O.'s next season will be the last for Beck. He says that while he loves working with the orchestra, it is simply time for him to move on.

"I've brought what I really had to give, I think, to the Lima Symphony and it's been absolutely some of the greatest joys of my professional life."

Beck will continue to conduct the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra as he has been and he may very well pick up a second job as well if the opportunity arises.
