Christians kick off the Lenten season, by asking for forgiveness for their sins.

Today(2/14/18) is Ash Wednesday and services were held, like the one at St. Gerard’s, to mark the beginning of Lent that lasts until Easter. The wearing of the ashes goes back to the Old Testament, as a sign to ask God to forgive them for their sins. Today Christians in English speaking counties use the sign of the cross in ashes on their forehead. Lent is six weeks of repentance for Christians and it is a time look at their relationship with God.

“Look at their life, see those things that keep them from, and keep myself from a closer relationship with God and to begin to let those things go. Really get rid of those things in our lives so we can have a deeper loving intimate relationship with Christ, who went through his passion death and resurrection for each of us.” said Fr. Mike Sergi, Associate Pastor St. Gerard.
