Nutrition students at Bluffton University held this year's first "Lunch and Learn" session Wednesday afternoon.

The series features two junior nutrition students picking a topic, holding a cooking demonstration about that topic, and giving nutritional information.  This is the fifth year that the university has held the program, and it was once again sponsored by The Food Store - who provided financial help as well as lending the students a hand in the kitchen.  Both students that went first in the series said that they wanted to be sure that their audience would better understand the topics they picked.

"Up here in Ohio, not a lot of people eat the healthy fats, and my major topic on this was fish, so many people don’t know about fish and there’s a lot of myths, so I wanted to clarify those myths and get it out there that it’s very healthy to eat," said dietetics major Kelsey Reeder.

And having to put together the project has taught the students a lot about how to best explain their topics to the public.

"We did to do extensive research on our topics, so I did cooking oils and that’s just a whole range of different topics to look into, so it’s been good because we have to understand how to explain it in a way that makes sense to the public and consumers who are buying the products," said Hannah Stephens, a dietetics major.
