Lima Society of Professional Engineers holds 2018 MathCounts competition

Area middle schoolers put their math skills to the test Saturday morning for a shot at making it to the next level.

The competition was held by the the Lima Society of Professional Engineers and challenged middle school teams and individuals with different rounds of math problems for them to solve.  This is the 35th year that the Lima group has hosted the event, and with nine area schools and over 60 students participating, members say that the future looks bright for the world of engineering. 

"It’s really exciting to have this many students that are excited about math, and there’s some very talented youth in our chapter here - we have some students that will compete very well at the state competition, we're really looking forward to that," said Kirk Slusher, MathCounts Coordinator, Lima Society of Professional Engineers.

Winners of the competition will be heading to Columbus on March 10th in compete on the state level.  The team that will be moving on is Elida Middle School, (Cody Crates, Emalee Cunningham, Jackson Davis, and Mike Niebel) and the individuals that will be moving on are Mackenzie Burgei, Ft. Jennings School; Michael Steffen, Ottoville Middle School; Even Joeseph, Ft. Jennings School; and Austin Ebbing, Coldwater Middle School.
