Ohio Governor John Kasich, who beforehand had promised an "odd" speech, waxed philosophical for nearly an hour, in his final State of the State address Tuesday.

The governor spent little time on the actual workings of government or the direction of the state. Instead, he talked of his favorite philosophers and theologians. Kasich spoke of the similarity of beliefs between the major religions, and the betterment goals of his secular humanists friends. The governor praised young people considered millennials; saying they were more inspired by meaning than money, and seek community more than personal gain. Kasich briefly mentioned economics, and workforce development, but dwelled on improved health care for all in Ohio. He touted lawmakers efforts to better care for individuals with mental health problems. The governor also handed out Courage Awards to three young Ohioans, for their public service.
