The Red Cross and Bath Township Fire Department teamed up Friday afternoon to help citizens with the Sound the Alarm Campaign.

The campaign involved volunteers from the Red Cross, Bath Fire Department, and OSU Lima going door to door to teach people how to be prepared for a house fire and installing smoke detectors in homes that need them. This is a campaign that is going on around the country to try and reduce the number of deaths and injuries from house fires by 25 percent by 2020.

Bath Fire Chief Joseph Kitchen says that smoke detectors are a vital part of keeping a home, and the people inside, safe.

"Smoke detectors are your best chance to survive in the event of a fire - the earlier that you're aware of a fire in your home, that gives you time to escape, you may only have one or two minutes, so every home needs smoke detectors," said Chief Kitchen.

This is the second time that the Red Cross and Bath Fire Department have teamed up for the campaign.
