March 10th is National Landline Day, but for the first time in history more American homes have only cell phone service.

According to a U.S. government study, 50.8% of homes across the nation use cell phones exclusively, while only 49.9% continue to use landlines at all. But, how do people in Bluffton match up to these stats?

"We still have a landline, my husband worked for the phone company for a long time," says Marcia Gallant. "I have the cell phone for when I travel but otherwise don't really use it."

Lois Bontrager still has a landline as well, but she rarely uses it. The only real reason her household still has one is because it comes with her cable and internet package.

However as far as Perry Miller is concerned, he did not see the need.

"I think it was costing us like $65 or something like that a month, and our cell phones were what we were using anyhow so we just didn't think we needed it."

Regardless, there is still a lot of fond memories when it comes to landlines.

"I do remember not having caller I.D. and as a 9 or 10 year old prank calling my grandparents, you know, that was fun but I'm past that," says Jessica Hermiller.

Gallant's memory goes back even further than just no caller I.D.

"There was party lines, and there was certain rings for each family," says Gallant. "You just listened and you would pick it up, and you could hear people talking."
