Several local area high school students were recognized by the Lima Exchange Club for accepting the challenge of excellence.

During the club's weekly meeting students received ACE awards. The students' guidance counselors nominated the students based on how they've seen these students overcome a physical, emotional or social obstacle during their time in high school. Some challenges the recipients shared were depression, loss of a family member and dealing with an illness. The students received a certificate and $100.

"Every year (it) brings tears to your eyes knowing what they achieved, despite their obstacles," said Angie Herzog, ACE awards chairperson. "It's a wonderful feeling. It's my favorite program that we do in exchange club."

On top of the recognition, Jordan Strange was selected out of the seven honorees, to receive a $500 scholarship.

"It felt good. For 16 years I didn't tell anybody and nobody knew," said Strange, a senior at Bath High School. "Now people know and I can use that knowledge to help other people."

Strange moves on to the district Exchange Club where she is up for a $1,000 scholarship.
