A Lima woman's desire to give back has led her to help children whose lives change at a moment's notice.

Abby Hurles teamed up with Allen County Children Services to create the Journey Totes program. The totes are designed to provide items to help children who need to be placed with family members or caregivers, and have to adjust to their new home. The totes for the children contain hygiene and other items and the family tote is filled with items like laundry soap and paper towels.

"I was looking for a way to give back. 31 represents doing good for others and I really thought about it for a long time and I prayed about it, and I come to the conclusion that I chose foster children. To find a way to help them transition for something that they can have as their very own," explained Abby Hurles.

"When relatives step up to take the kids, it could be the middle of the night, it could be on the weekend. They don’t have time, they don’t have time to get the essentials needed so it’s an addition to their household, whether it be more paper towels are needed or laundry detergent, so it’s a wonderful thing," said Cyndi Scanland, Executive Director of Allen County Children Services

Hurles raises money for the totes that cost $20 a piece, and she fills the totes out of her own pocket. If you are interested in helping with the program you can email her at abbya27@gmail.com.
