No matter what time of year, Ohio Department of Transportation workers are out there working on the roads to make them safer.

Monday morning, ODOT crews were repairing a cable barrier that stopped a semi that went off the left side of the road and nearly into the opposite lane of traffic. But thanks to the cable barrier, the semi stopped short of what could have been a serious accident. As crews work to reinstall the safety measures that help save motorists' lives on the road, ODOT wants to remind drivers to be cautious in work zones to help protect the lives of of the workers too.

“As we transition from snow and ice into construction season, we just ask that motorist understand the importance of work zones and why we are out here. Because a carefully maintain highway is a safe highway, so we want to return this very important safety mechanism back to service as quickly as we can,” said Rhonda Pees, ODOT District 1.

On March 15th, an ODOT worker around Youngstown lost his life, when a motorist went into a work zone and hit him. The Ohio Department of Transportation wants people to slow down and pay attention to other drivers while in the work zone. Next Monday(4/9/18) kicks of Work Zone Awareness Week nationwide.
