The snow on Monday didn’t stop the crew from Marimor Industries from their first day back working in the Lima parks.

For the last 15 years Marimor Industries and Lima Parks, Recreation and Forestry have teamed up to employ individuals from Marimor to help clean up the city parks. Monday marked the first day of the season and early on its about clearing out debris and getting the winter off the parks as Deputy Public Works Director Ric Stolly put it. He called the Marimor Industries employees an extension of the city maintenance staff and a valuable service to the community.

"The guys really buy into the working for the city part and they take pride in what they do," said Jerry Hunt, the employment specialist from Marimor Industries. "They talk about how nice the parks look, they showcase it to their families and etc.."

Hunt will have a team out in the parks three days a week through May. After that, they’ll help out in the parks five days a week through November. Hunt said the employees will rotate to different jobs to experience different positions. They’ll also get help building resumes and cover letters to take that next step in the employment world.

"These folks are hard working folks. This gives them an opportunity to come out into the community and showcase their skills, build their skills. They get hands on. They work in a team environment. We job coach them, they job coach each other. Eventually, its just a step up to another job possibly for them."

Hunt said when equipment is involved like a leaf blower or a weed whacker, he’ll actually train his team on how to use that as well.
