Well, there was standing room only in Auglaize County as First responders, County officials and opiate survivors all gathered this morning to appreciate the team efforts to put an end to the Opiate epidemic.

The state of Ohio takes third in states most affected by opiate abuse in the US.  Aggressive action is being taken by many different agencies in Auglaize County to put an end to this epidemic. Several former addicts thanked the first responders that saved their lives and putting them on the path of clean living.  Recovering addicts from the  Auglaize recovery program were present in the meeting today, thanking all stepped in to help them regain control of their lives.  The Auglaize County Recovery Program was started 3 years ago in order to give people on their way to jail another outlet to overcome their addictions.

"The courts, judge, probation, ah um our local mental health agencies all come together to help the program be successful,"  says Captain Lisa Wright, Jail Administrator, Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office "And the Vivitrol shot plays a big role in that because it blocks the affects of opiates on the brain. So um, even if they want to take the drug, they’re not going to get any affect from it. and then the counseling is big, um, because without counseling they can’t be successful”

Counseling, drug treatment, regular drug screenings, and educational courses are all offered as a part of the recovery program. According to Captain Wright, the program is currently seeing about a 65% success rate, they hope between more participants and a few treatment modifications, that percentage will increase.
