The Lima City School board is passed two resolution that sends messages to Columbus lawmakers.

The board voted to object to Ohio House Bill 512, which would consolidate the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Department of Higher Education and Governor’ Office of Workforce Transformation into a one state agency.  Right now the state board of education has local representation, but if this bill passes the board is worried that it would eliminate a local voice on state education policy.  The board also voted to urge state lawmakers to support school safety initiatives through increased funding and mental health service. The school districts pay for those programs out of their own budget and if they get more funding, then that money can be put back into education.

“That is very important stuff that we know we need to have and we are happy to have it,"  says Jill Ackerman, Superintendent of Lima City Schools. "We also know that it’s money that can be used for curriculum and education.  So to have some support from the state in the area of school safety and security and for mental health, pieces would be very beneficial for us.”

Husky also donated $5,000 the Lima City School Art Program.  Husky is using the student art to decorate their office on Market Street,  The artwork will rotate through as new art is created.
