The Putnam County Dog Shelter definitely had a good year last year, selling around 6,100 dog licenses and taking in 113 cases in 2017. As they have been growing, so has their space.

The building has seen a few upgrades in the past few years from a new weatherized roof to a remodeled office area. For the dogs, they have upgraded dog pens inside and outside, as well as added a running area for the pups to play. All the improvements make the space that much nicer when people come to adopt.

"[Warden Mike Schroth] has visitation, if you will, and he also accepts people to call him and make appointments to visit the dogs," says Putnam County Commissioner John Love. "In the old days, we used to have to euthanize dogs and fortunately that has gone down dramatically because of this adoption program that Mike has initiated as well as the rescues."
